For Molly and Caroline

For a while now, I've been playing guitar and singing silly songs to Caroline and Joey while they jump on the bed. Recently I've started singing them "That's how I escaped my certain fate." Caroline in particular loves it. While Joey and I were surfing youtube, we found this video of the reformed Mission of Burma playing one of their best tunes. We decided to post it so that when Molly and Caroline woke up, they would be sure to watch it.

Hey, what's they're new stuff like? I still only acknowledge 1 album and 1 e.p. But, maybe I should, you know, grow up?

ugh. "they're"--where'd that come from?

You don't count *The Horrible Truth about Burma* as an album?

I got *Onoffon* shortly after the band reformed and thought it was ok, but it didn't really grab me and make me want to keep listening to it.

Oddly, I recall it having a remake of an old MoB song on it ("This is not a photograph", maybe?) but when I look at the track list on Amazon, I don't see it.

In any case, the best thing on the album was the remake of the old song. I'll look at it when I get home.

Hmmmm. An album? Well yeah I guess so. My memory of it is that was so muddy and badly created/recorded, that it doesn't really count. But, ok if we're gonna be finicky, I'll count it. (Are you suggesting that it was actually good?).

I thought that the titular "horrible truth" was that the album captured the way they actually sounded live back then.

never saw them. that's what I heard. But, that's just documentation at that point, and makes me want perversely to stand by the claim that it doesn't count as an album (yes, that is a normative notion). :)

I find it hard to believe that the two of you haven't already had this conversation, but, say, outside in April in Annapolis. At 2 am.

(I never saw them either, but I did see Volcano Suns in 1984 or 85.)

I'm listening to Onoffon now, and it kicks ass.

I'm not actually sure how much I listened to it when it came out. I don't remember the later tracks on the album, and my idea that it contained a remake of one of their older tunes turns out to have been a brain fart. (Although "The Setup" sounds like it really should have been on *vs* or *signals calls and marches*
